Tunnel of Oppression: U of Montana

The Tunnel of Oppression is an interactive event that highlights contemporary issues of oppression. It is designed to introduce participants to the concepts of oppression, privilege, and power. Participants are guided through a series of scenes that aim to educate and challenge them to think more deeply about issues of oppression. At the end of the tour, participants are provided with the opportunity to discuss their experiences with each other. Facilitators help participants reflect on their experiences and put their newfound knowledge to use in their everyday lives.

iEmpathize will host three components of the Tunnel of Oppression.

Empathy Exhibit: March 3-6th 10am-4pm 
Participants will have the opportunity to tour an exhibit of sex trafficking artifacts from the locations of exploitation and rescue. Enter into the stories of survivors and advocates here in the US and around the world. Register for a tour

Mattress Vigil: March 3-6th in the UC Atrium 10am-4pm
Make a real impact in the lives of vulnerable and victimized kids by participating in our Mattress Vigil. The Mattress Vigil is silent protest against child exploitation. Each mattress represents where children are first exploited. The theme of EMPATHY WEEK in ENTERING IN.  Enter in by taking 10-15 minutes on mattress to contemplate the child victims and advocate by raising awareness and funds. Registration coming soon!

Film Screening of Boom March 3rd at 7pm in the UC Theater 
Be at the Montana premier of “Boom”!  “Boom” is the story of a college graduate who moves to North Dakota to work as a trucker in the oil fields. He quickly becomes acutely aware that there is more being exploited in the high northern plains than just natural resources. Go undercover with iEmpathize and explore the darker side of our oil communities through club scenes and prostitution rings. The Montana premiere of this film will empower us to recognize and respond to human trafficking in and around our communities.
