Empower Youth Program: Complimentary Preview
Welcome to a preview of The Empower Youth Program.
The Empower Youth Program is an innovative tool that equips you with the power to stay safe from people and situations that intend to take advantage of you and your friends. We call these people exploiters. They want to find a weakness or need in our lives and will use that to deceive us and trick us into doing something that benefits only them. As you go through these lessons, you will learn about the strategies exploiters use to take advantage of us and the strategies you can use to stay safe from exploitation. The adults who are facilitating this program with you are here to support you on the journey. The youth, educators, artists, film crews, and everyone who built the Empower Youth Program shared their stories to inspire you to share yours with people you can trust.
Exploitation comes in many forms, such as bullying, neglect, and emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. Human trafficking, perhaps the most extreme form of exploitation, is a form that most of us know little about, yet it occurs in virtually every U.S. community. Many factors can make us vulnerable to exploitation. Personal factors, such as poverty or unstable home environments, and cultural factors, such as hyper-sexualized media, can push us into vulnerability.
Exploitative people target those who are vulnerable, seeking to pull them down further in order to obtain personal gain. We need to be empowered to safely navigate the factors in our lives that could otherwise make us vulnerable to exploitation.
